Please note !!! (Assessment Item: File Handling and System.IO)

In activity 8 of this assessment item there are a couple of inconsistencies:

The instructions ask you to create btnSaveLog and btnDeleteFile however, no instructions are given for using them. These are redundant and may be omitted.

Also, there is no instruction given for adding btnClearTextbox to the interface, however, the activity then requires code to be added to this button. Please add this button.

Sorry for any confusion. Please contact me if you have trouble with this :)

What's comming up?

OK I have made a few changes to our calendar.

We will not be looking at chapter 12 of the text which means we will not be doing any of the chapter work (project, test).

The final test will take place on Monday October 5 and will be a 60 question test on chapter 11. You will have 1 hour to complete the test and it is open book. I will aim to have the test available by the end of this week.

Next week on Monday we will be doing an extensive 'major project primer'. Your attendance is VERY important! On Tuesday I will be handing out the major project so that you can have a crack at it over the 2 week break.

Next term will consist mainly of 'work sessions' to allow you to work in a supported environment (with me). The students who take advantage of these sessions usually have fewer problems with the major project than those who do not make good use of this time.

Just a reminder that there is a test session on Thursday morning at 9.30 am.

As usual, I am here if you require assistance. Just ask :)

Introduction to database programming

Today we started to have a look at working with databases. Follow the linkn for the notes for today which discusses some of the scintillating topics below.

http://c4programming.posterous.com/introduction-to-database-programming

  • What is a Database?
  • Types of databases
  • Relational Database Management System (RDBMS)
  • Common features of a relational database
  • Tables
  • Rows & Columns
  • Field Data Types
  • Primary Keys

Don't forget, we will NOT be working closely with the text for this subject so your attendance is CRITICAL to ensure that you are able to complete your major assessment.

For this reason, we will not be completeing the chapter 10 project or test.
